Betty Lai

Betty's practice focuses on corporate and commercial law, with particular expertise in corporate finance transactions, bank lending, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and business structuring. She regularly advises clients on the purchase and sale of businesses, franchised operations, trademark matters, and the incorporation and maintenance of offshore entities.

Betty has extensive experience advising healthcare professionals on a wide range of legal and business matters, including the establishment, acquisition, and sale of professional practices. She also assists clients with professional incorporations, tax planning strategies, lease negotiations, and the preparation of partnership, shareholder, associate, and cost-sharing agreements.

In addition, Betty advises individuals and businesses on estate and wealth planning matters, including the establishment of family trusts and offshore trusts. She also assists foreign corporations and investors entering the Canadian market, helping them navigate regulatory requirements and comply with the Investment Canada Act.

Betty joined Sun & Partners Professional Corporation in 1993 and became a partner in 1996. Over the course of her career, she has built a reputation for delivering practical, strategic, and client-focused legal advice to businesses, professionals, and investors.
